If being one of the most talented comedy actresses of her day isn’t enough, Melissa McCarthy is adding another item onto her already-prolific resumé — fashion designer.
According to an interview with InStyle, her clothing line ‘Seven7’ is set to be released on August 1 not only on her own site, melissamccarthy.com, but also at Macy’s, HSN and Lane Bryant. While the line will be available to purchase from several different vendors, Seven7 is also accessible in completely different way: it will offer pieces for women of all shapes and sizes, ranging from size 4 to size 28.
McCarthy told InStyle, “‘I wanted to make the clothes that I couldn’t find, especially for plus sizes,'” saying that she wanted to veer from the fashion industry standard of making plus-sized clothing “‘bigger'” and “‘drapier'” to instead make her plus-sized clothing “‘cooler.'”
Unlike other designers, McCarthy kept plus sizes at the forefront of her mind while designing the line, telling InStyle, “‘About 57% of women in this country are a size 14 and I feel like you’re telling the largest group of women that something’s wrong with them.'” To combat this, she set out to create clothing that flatters all different curves and all different lifestyles, saying, “‘I dress differently every day of my life, and most women should have the option to … I feel like clothes have to be flexible, you’ve got to be able to wear it to work, or out, or to dinner. That’s how we dress now.'”
Seven7, therefore, is filled with pieces that McCarthy said would compose “‘a closet that I wished I could go out and shop, but I didn’t feel like I could find,'” incorporating pieces she loves, like comfortable t-shirts, tops with abstract prints and faux-leather trimmed shirts and pants.
McCarthy said she wants women to not only feel comfortable in the clothing from Seven7, but also to feel put together and confident. But most of all, she wants women to wear what makes them feel beautiful: “‘If you love something and it makes you feel great, wear it.'”
Congratulations on your new clothing line, Melissa! We can’t wait to see how fabulous it is!
