She Leads, You Follow: BAFTA Awards Edition

Valentine’s Day was the perfect day to celebrate the most loved performances of the small and silver screens as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts hosted their BAFTA Awards on Feb. 14. While the awards honored the best works of television and film, the red carpet paid homage to the stars’ impeccable style.

Taking to the red carpet outside of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden was Julianne Moore, who stunned in a black and white Armani gown according to ELLE. Moore completed her halter-style gown with black heels, chandelier earrings and a sleek updo.

Adding a pop of color to the mix with her bright fuchsia gown was Angela Bassett, who rocked a curve-hugging gown in the eye-popping color. Carrying a clutch in a matching hue, Bassett styled her look with pin-straight locks and a few statement rings.

Kate Winslet followed suit in an asymmetrical style by Antonio Berardi, says ELLE. Adding a pop of color to her all-black ensemble with a red clutch, Winslet polished off her look with embellished black pumps and diamond bracelets and earrings.

Although these ladies are dressed for yet another awards season event, there are things we can learn from their looks to apply to the way we dress every day:

  1. Get in ‘shape’ – Moore’s and Winslet’s gowns both have very interesting shapes, which creates a visually stimulating look overall. While Moore’s gown has a halter neckline with contrasting straps, Winslet’s gown features a one-shoulder silhouette with an arm strap and notched bodice. Details like this at the neckline not only add life to otherwise simple looks, they direct our attention to their beautiful faces. When shopping for a blouse or a dress, look for details in the neckline to elevate a simple look and frame your face.
  2. Color your world – Nothing brightens your day quite like a pop of color in your outfit, and Angela Bassett showed us just how uplifting a bright color can be. What is exquisite about her look in particular is how saturated the color of her gown is; it is a rich, full fuchsia that complements her skin tone. If you’re looking to add some brights to your life, make sure that they are saturated colors — like the one Bassett is wearing; this means the color is vivid, rich and intense. These colors will most likely enhance your skin tone and give it a warmth in the midst of this cold winter.
