Ralph Lauren shares on the company website that it took 292 people to craft the ceremony uniforms, with over 1,100 members of Team USA set to be outfitted in Polo Ralph Lauren paradewear. The ceremony attire itself is comprised of a sleek blue blazer, patriotic boat shoes, white pants and a selection of red, white and blue tops.

Wear what you want

You’ve never needed permission to feel comfortable in your own skin or to wear exactly what you’ve always wanted to wear — that’s exactly the message behind a new hashtag that circulating around Instagram.

According to ELLE, Los Angeles plus-size blogger Simone Mariposa started the movement when she posted some photos of herself all decked out in her most stylish looks accompanied with the hashtag, “#WeWearWhatWeWant.”

From swimsuit looks to stylish dresses, ELLE reports that the message behind her stylish photos is “that women actually dress for themselves, not men, not other women, and certainly not for the trolls in the comments section—has taken off.”

Since her initial posts, Buzzfeed reports that hundreds of women have joined the movement, posting their own photos wearing what they love.

From swimsuits to crop tops, from models like Tess Holliday to other gorgeous women from around the world,  each woman proved that they deserve to wear exactly what makes them feel beautiful — after all, women should be dressing for themselves and no one else.

Capsule collection on the way for JLo

If you’ve ever admired Jennifer Lopez’s style — whether on the red carpet, on stage or on the street — you’ll want to keep an eye out for her forthcoming capsule collection.

According to ELLE, the 47-year-old multi-hyphenate will release a collection of shoes and accessories, teaming up with luxury shoe brand Giuseppe Zanotti to design the upcoming styles.

Set to be released in January 2017, ELLE reports that the collection will include “crystal-encrusted open-toe booties, embellished wedge sneakers, and gladiators in snakeskin-print leather in a palette of pastels, cool greys, and warm beiges. Two bag styles complete the collection.”

Lopez told ELLE of the impetus behind the collection, while also dropping some hints about what to expect from the line.

“I think it goes without saying that like every other girl, I love a killer pair of shoes,” she said to ELLE. “Whether I’m walking the red carpet or dressed casually, the right shoes complete my outfit to make me feel beautiful, sexy, and fearless. The collection Giuseppe and I have created is everything you would expect from the both of us—bad ass high heels with shapes that are fierce and of course, have some sparkle!”

As for Zanotti himself, he said that the capsule collection perfectly encapsulates Lopez, telling ELLE, “The collection, like Jennifer, is sensual, sophisticated, modern but also playful and edgy.”

ELLE reports that pair’s designs will be available in Giuseppe Zanotti stores, online and at select retailers worldwide.

DuVernay and Winfrey team up for children’s classic

After working together on the movie Selma and collaborating again on a new series for OWN called Queen Sugar (set to premiere on September 6), Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay are set to work together for a third time, according to ELLE.

The pair is now taking on the children’s classic A Wrinkle in Timesays ELLE, part of a “science-fiction/fantasy series called the Time Quintet” that was penned by Madeleine L’Engle in 1963.

ELLE reports that Winfrey is in final negotiations to play the part of Mrs. Which, the “wisest of three mysterious characters who help two children find their lost father in another dimension.”

While ELLE says the character is portrayed as a light in the book, we’re pretty sure Winfrey will take the character to a whole new level — just as DuVernay will do the same to the entire film.

Martinez pays it forward

Olympian Brenda Martinez knows that every child who dreams of one day running a race on behalf of Team USA needs to have two things: determination and a good pair of running shoes. That’s why she’s donating new sneakers to aspiring runners.

According to the Huffington Post, the 28-year-old runner shared the story of her youth that inspired this program on Instagram, writing:

“I remember when I was young and my parents couldn’t afford to buy me a new pair of running shoes … The shoes I wore to school were the same shoes I wore to practice. My father would always try to find running shoes on the clearance rack.”

But after pursuing track and field at age 5, running for UC Riverside and being turned down by two major training groups, the Huffington Post says Martinez finally got her break when she picked up a sponsorship from New Balance and was “was introduced to Joe Vigil, a legendary coach who believed in Martinez’s talent and offered to coach her. With Vigil’s support, Martinez won the bronze medal for the 800m at the World Championships in 2013, according to”

Three years later, and Martinez will be taking to the track in Rio for the 1500m race, says the Huffington Post. But beyond her forthcoming stint on Team USA, the Huffington Post reports that “for the past four years, Martinez has hosted an annual summer camp for 10 to 12 female high school runners, she described to FloTrack.”

The camp, which includes “daily runs and clinics about confidence, healthy living and positive thinking,” is run by Martinez and her husband, Carlos Handler, who “cover all expenses, including meals, and even personally pick the girls up when they arrive in couple’s town of Big Bear Lake, California,” according to the Huffington Post.

While Martinez and Handler certainly take care of their campers, New Balance steps in to provide some other essentials, donating workout clothes and three pairs of shoes to each camper, says the Huffington Post.

Martinez summed up the goal of her camp best when she wrote in her Instagram post, “I’m donating back to the sport that gave me a fighting chance in the world.”

Chenoweth brings new jewelry designs to HSN

If finding new jewelry is on your to-do list this summer, you may want to keep an eye out for Kristin Chenoweth’s jewelry collection on HSN.

Although InStyle reports that the Broadway star launched the line last December, she’s recently added new styles to the collection. Filled with whimsical designs like a music note cuff, anchor earrings and even a hashtag-emblazoned ring, InStyle says Chenoweth’s jewelry line is injected with a bit of her personality and her Broadway roots.

Pieces include “a necklace based on Charlie Chaplin’s song ‘Smile’ along with favorites like sterling silver pave arrow stud earrings and a pave anchor ring,” says InStyle.

While Chenoweth told InStyle that she is often “up in the middle of the night” working on new designs, crafting beautiful and inspired jewelry is not a taxing project for the Tony winner.

“It never feels like a job for me,” she told InStyle. “I can’t see myself doing anything but what I do. There’s no other choice for me. I’m an artist.”

Shahidi hits back at Hollywood stereotypes

It’s no secret that stereotypes still persist in pop culture and in the world at large. But Yara Shahidi had some powerful words to help tear down hurtful and confining stereotypes that continue to plague the realm in which she works: Hollywood.

According to the Huffington Post, after the Blackish actress received an award at the Points of Life Conference on Volunteering and Service in June, Shahidi used the moment to deliver a striking speech on the still-present stereotypes surrounding people of color in Hollywood. The Huffington Post says 16-year-old explained the danger of perpetuating a narrow story of people of color, saying that many grow up to believe that “they are an anomaly if they succeed and the expectation if they fail.”

She went on to offer that it is impossible for people of color to believe that they are “valued similarly” when they are continually reduced to narrow-minded stereotypes that are inaccurate portrayals of real people, reports the Huffington Post.

To combat this, the Huffington Post says Shahidi offered a highly plausible solution to the issue: more intentional programming on television that presents a more accurate depiction of certain groups of people. Citing shows like TransparentJane the Virgin and her own Blackish, the Huffington Post says Shahidi explained how her character of Zoey helps her to break down oft-perpetuated stereotypes:

“It is through my character and characters like her that the barrier of racism, ageism, sexism and other -isms can be broken down … Art plus activism in any and all forms is a powerful statement that can spread a message that transcends the barriers and limitations of our different realities to reveal the commonality of our shared human existence.”

Larson enters the Marvel universe

When Captain Marvel was introduced in the 1960s, Marie Claire says the character was the first leading female character to enter the Marvel universe. And now, that character will be brought to life by none other than Brie Larson.

The Room” actress and Oscar winner is set to take on the role of Captain Marvel (or Carol Danvers) in a 2019 film called, “Captain Marvel,” reports Marie Claire. The news was announced at the recent Comic-Con event held for the forthcoming film, in which Larson attended the cast’s panel discussion.

Marie Claire explains Larson’s character this way:

“Captain Marvel began as Carol Danvers, a superpower-free person who fell in love with her friend, the original Captain Marvel. Carol became Ms Marvel, and later attained superpowers after an accident. The weird bit was that Carol didn’t know she was Ms Marvel, and Ms Marvel didn’t known she was Carol.”

A brief stint with the Avengers and memory loss via X-Men’s Rogue all combine to make this a highly complicated character, but as Marie Claire says, “The film will finally act as an answer to all the desperate calls from fans for Marvel to hurry up and make more films that give the company’s female characters justice.”

Taylor takes Topshop by storm

It’s not every day that someone gets to star in a campaign for a major retailer, but for Taylor Hill, it’s just one more step in solidifying her supermodel status.

According to, the 20-year-old model is now the face of Topshop‘s fall 2016 campaign, says a July 25 announcement — and that’s following her 2015 induction as a Victoria’s Secret Angel and her front-and-center spots for other major fashion campaigns, including Juicy Couture and Miu Miu, to name a few.

Hill follows in the footsteps of other big names in modeling, such as Kate Moss, Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne, all of whom have stepped in front of the camera for Topshop, reports

The Colorado native makes her mark in the new campaign — which says was styled by Topshop creative director Kate Phelan and shot by Giampaolo Sgura — in a studded and embroidered moto-style jacket, paired with a sheer, printed black dress. says Phelan explained in a press release the motivation for selecting Hill as the brand’s newest face. “She is a social supermodel and a young woman with style and personality; she is every Topshop girl rolled into one,” she said.

Hill not only shows off her social savvy via her highly-followed Instagram, she also does so as she takes centerstage in a video following the young model and her dog, Tate, in a day around New York City, says

Whether she’s on the runway or in front of the camera, this campaign is an indication that we’re sure to see much more of Hill in the near future.
