Ask someone to name a song from the Spice Girls, and the odds that “Wannabe” is the first to be mentioned is rather high. But the iconic song has now been remade to include a very important message.
According to Glamour UK, a charity called Project Everyone has remade the girl-power group’s anthem, and the video depicts women from the United States, Nigeria, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Canada and India sharing with government leaders the things they really, really want, which range from “an end to violence against women to quality education for girls.”
The project already garnered attention from former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, who in a statement said, “I think this film is a wonderful idea … How fabulous it is that after 20 years, the legacy of the Spice Girls’ ‘Girl Power’ is being used to encourage and empower a whole new generation,” according to Glamour UK.
Glamour UK says that the video aims to encourage women to tweet photos sharing the things they’d really want world governments to change using the hashtag ‘#WhatIReallyReallyWant.’
The best part about the project: your input on Twitter may actually make a difference, as Glamour UK says that these photos will be presented to the UN General Assembly in September.
Time to take to Twitter to share what you really, really want.
