Two Riverdale actors were not about to let their photoshopped magazine covers go unnoticed, so they called out the publication in the most public way possible — on social media.
According to Elite Daily, Camila Mendes and Lili Reinhart both were photographed for Cosmopolitan Philippines, though their cover photos looked a bit different than they remembered: instead of showing their real figures, the images were instead shaven down in Photoshop, showing the actors as impossibly narrower than they are. So to bring attention to the unwarranted editing, the duo decided to point out the adjustments on Instagram.
“@lilireinhart and I feel disrespected & disturbed by the sight of our photoshopped bodies,” Mendes wrote via her Instagram Story, according to Elite Daily. “We want [Cosmopolitan Philippines] readers to know that those bodies are not ours.”
Both Mendes and Reinhart proceeded to post a sequence of their original images followed by the edited photos in their Instagram stories, says Elite Daily, highlighting the area of their torsos that were trimmed with a photo editing tool. Beyond this, Mendes also offered a written response on her Instagram story, writing that she and her Riverdale counterpart feel disrespected by the changes made to their photos.
Calling their figures “distorted,” Elite Daily says Mendes wrote that she and Reinhart “prefer to see our bodies the way they actually are. I’m not interested in having a slimmer waist, I’m more than satisfied with the one that I already have.”
Tell ’em, Camila!

Remember this name: Hunter McGrady.
The 23-year-old model recently made her debut in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and was dubbed the “curviest model ever” to grace the glossy, according to Elite Daily, but it’s not just her stunningly gorgeous photos that are making headlines. It’s her message of body acceptance that is making a splash.
After beginning her modeling career at age 16, McGrady was initially unable to make her way as a smaller-sized model, she told Elite Daily, and was met with rejection after showing up to a photo shoot — as a size 4 — and being turned away because of her size.
But past stumbling blocks didn’t hold her back: not only did McGrady land a spot in this year’s SI swimsuit edition, she also was named one of the issue’s Rookies of the Year, according to Elite Daily — a feat she achieved after modeling a painted-on swimsuit.
“I didn’t feel like I was naked at all. But I was 100 percent naked. You have to own it,” she told Yahoo Style.
And own it she did. The best part is that she’s inspiring other women to own their bodies just the same.
“I want women to pick up what is the considered the sexiest magazine issue and feel inspired,” she said, according to Yahoo Style. “There’s someone in it who looks like them, who isn’t the traditional model they see. Every body type is beautiful.”
Amen to that.
We always knew that sisters and tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams were the pinnacle of athletic achievement. Now we know they are also the ultimate siblings.
According to Elite Daily, after Serena won the Australian Open — and her 23rd Grand Slam title — over Venus in the championship match, Venus made it clear that she is her sister’s biggest supporter and most ardent fan.
Taking the podium after the match, Elite Daily says Venus began a short speech by acknowledging Serena as her “little sister,” stirring applause from the crowd. But then Elite Daily reports Venus let the world know just how proud she is of her sister:
“Congratulations Serena on number 23, I have been right there with you. Some of them I have lost against you. I guess that’s weird but it’s true. But it’s been an awesome thing, your win has always been my win, I think you know that. And all the times I wouldn’t be there, couldn’t be there or didn’t get there, you were there. I’m enormously proud of you, you mean the world to me.”
Following Venus’s speech, Serena returned the love and admiration back to her sister.
“There is no way I would be at 23 without her, there is no way I would be at one without her, there’s no way I would have anything without her,” she said, according to Elite Daily. “She is my inspiration.”
And they are both our inspirations. Congratulations to them both.
Amy Schumer is known for promoting a positive body image, often fighting naysayers online and in the media at large. But on Tuesday, May 31, Schumer didn’t have to combat Internet trolls alone; instead, she had help from one of her fans on Instagram.
In late 2015, the Inside Amy Schumer star posed almost completely nude to be photographed by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz for the 2016 Pirelli calendar. While this photo is now several months old, Elite Daily says that a fan with the username ‘whitneyzombie’ on Instagram took to the social media platform to share the image of Schumer alongside an image of the Greek goddess Aphrodite.
Schumer posted the side-by-side photo comparing her to Aphrodite following a separate screenshot containing Whitneyzombie’s caption, which prompted women and girls alike to love their bodies as they are.
“What a wonderful resemblance between two beautiful women. So many women and young girls are shamed by the media and fashion industry for not having a flat stomach and not being a size zero. But look, the goddess of beauty is portrayed here with stomach rolls and doesn’t have a perfectly smooth, toned body. I want to remind everyone that they do not have to be a Victoria’s Secret model to be a beautiful goddess with a beautiful body. Your body is not bad, ugly or wrong. Embrace your inner goddess.”
Joining the user’s caption were hashtags like “#bodypositive,” “#everybodyisagoodbody” and “#Aphrodite.”
Schumer’s comment on Whitneyzombie’s body positive post? A simple thank you.
