Tiffany & Co. goes floral for fine jewelry

Fine jewelry just got a bit more flowery, thanks to some new designs by Tiffany & Co.

According to InStyle, Chief Artistic Officer Reed Krakoff unveiled his first fine and high jewelry collection for the brand called “Paper Flowers,” which — you guessed it — is “inspired by the idea of flower petals cut from paper.”

Done with an “organic shape and a very modern and graphic feel,” Krakoff told InStyle that the collection — which includes everything from pendants to rings — not only tries to make fine jewelry less stuffy, it also aims to offer a new take on Tiffany & Co.’s longstanding attraction to using nature for inspiration.

“We always strive for new interpretations, combining beauty with modernism, like in the Tiffany Paper Flowers collection,” Krakoff told InStyle. “We deconstruct the petals and rivet them together again with a pin. We’re beginning a new chapter of creativity, with a reverence for the past, but at the same time bringing excitement and surprise so that people consider us in a new way.”

Making its debut on May 1, pieces in the collection start at $2,500 and go all the way up to a lofty $75,000 — while another piece requires shoppers to call for pricing.

Former Kardashian assistant and brand COO tackles jewelry design

Since Stephanie Shepherd parted ways with one of the most famous women in the world, the former Kim Kardashian executive assistant and brand chief operating officer has finally announced her next move.

According to Refinery29, Shepherd is partnering with jewelry brand 8 Other Reasons for a brand-new jewelry collaboration that is “inspired by the movement around women’s empowerment.” Called “Woman,” Harper’s Bazaar reports that not only did Shepherd help design the products, she is also starring in the brand’s campaign, modeling the designs in some very Kim K-inspired photos.

Pieces from the line are bold, “colorful and cool,” Refinery29 says, but the designs are not just about being visually appealing; the pieces are also supposed to be “symbolic of strong, independent woman everywhere.”

What’s even better than its empowering messaging is its price range, which Refinery29 says stretches from $22 to $100.

Article22 offers chic, sustainable jewelry

It can often be difficult to find responsibly-made products that are both stylish and reasonably priced. But if you’re in the market for sustainably-made jewelry, look no further.

According to InStyle, jewelry line Article22‘s collaboration with model and actress Angela Lindvall offers the perfect solution to your sustainable jewelry needs. Based in Brooklyn, the line “works with artisans in Laos that have been upcycling aluminum scrap and other metals since the Vietnam War to create handcrafted, sustainable designs that benefit local communities,” reports InStyle.

Even drawing its name from “the 22nd article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that everyone has the right to social security,” InStyle says that the creation of one 14-karat gold necklace clears over 120 square feet of land — land that continues to contain “unexploded cluster bombs from the war.”

As far as Lindvall’s collaboration goes, InStyle says her 10-piece collection offers a selection of bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Called “Peace Begins in Me,” InStyle says that some of the items feature Lindvall’s personal motto: “I Am Love. I Am Light. I Am Peace.” Pieces start at $99 and cap at $1,248.

Rihanna dives into jewelry design

Fine jewelry is about to get a little finer, thanks to a new Rihanna collaboration.

Launching in May at the Cannes Film Festival, ELLE reports that the singer and fashion icon’s new jewelry line — “Rihanna Loves Chopard” — will draw “inspiration from the gardens and Carnival celebrations of Barbados, Rihanna’s native island.”

To design the nine-piece collection, ELLE says Rihanna worked with Chopard’s creative director, Caroline Scheufele, making a limited-edition jewelry line in which there are only 2,000 of each piece made. Though the collection is rather finite, Scheufele said in a statement that it’s easy to feel Rihanna’s boundless energy in the line, according to ELLE.

“Rihanna and I collaborated closely on the collections,” she said, “so you can feel her unstoppable energy, strong creativity, and inherent sense of design in every piece,”

With limited quantities available of a high-profile collection, the cost of owning even one of Rihanna’s designs should come as no surprise: ELLE reports that pieces are “available for pre-order now and range from a $1,460 ring to a $11,140 necklace (both made of ethically sourced materials), to a “price upon request” (aka very expensive) all-diamond watch.”

Take a time out with THL

Sometimes, you just need a little boost of inspiration to sustain your motivation throughout the day. While it can be difficult to maintain your positivity through the hustle and bustle of the work week, there is a simple — yet beautiful — solution that will remind you to keep pushing forward at all times.

Inspirational jewelry is not only the perfect way to keep your favorite mantra visible, it is also a great way to add a little dash of something special to your look. Often very sleek and unassuming, inspirational jewelry can look minimalist to the untrained eye, but to you, it carries a special meaning that you take with you throughout the day.

Check out some of THL’s favorite inspirational pieces:

Piper Cleo

This online boutique offers a host of jewelry — inspirational and otherwise — to inject a hint of meaning into your daily wear. Equal parts dainty and powerful, our favorite piece happens to be the “Nevertheless, she persisted” bar necklace, which boasts the now-famous words of Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell who ended a speech read by Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). Despite it’s political significance, the phrase has become something of a feminist rallying cry and makes for a perfect reminder to persist no matter the obstacles you face. The best part: the necklace is on sale for only $20.

Mantraband

A THL favorite, Mantraband offers both bracelets and necklaces with phrases on them that signify happiness, love, peace, strength or a journey. Available in gold, silver and rose gold, these pieces are subtle and unobtrusive enough to pair with your go-to jewelry without interference. Our personal favorite is the “Alis Volat Propriis” bracelet, a bangle that shares the message, “She flew with her own wings.” For only $25, you’ll remind yourself every day that you have the power to take charge of your life.

Alex and Ani

Perhaps the most well-known of these inspirational shops, Alex and Ani has a massive selection of their iconic bracelets, necklaces, rings and even accessories that all have latent meaning. If rings are more your thing, the Eros Arrow Wrap Ring offers the most unassuming take on inspirational jewelry yet. A simple arrow, the motif symbolizes direction; in its product description, the ring is said to serve as a reminder to “Stay focused with your eyes on the target. Let your arrow of intention fly to its goal.”

Take a break from work, take a deep breath and take a time out from the daily grind by perusing these selections of inspirational jewelry — and by reminding yourself that no matter what, you have all you need to succeed.

Tiffany & Co. debuts new ad with Lady Gaga

Super Bowl LI gave us a double dose of all things Lady Gaga: a stellar half-time performance and a new ad for Tiffany & Co. that aired during the telecast.

According to Glamour, the “Perfect Illusion” singer took a break from practicing for her Super Bowl gig to film a 60-second ad spot for the timeless jewelry company in which she invokes the simple elegance of a present-day Audrey Hepburn. In a head-to-toe black ensemble, Glamour says Gaga conveyed “an understated message of femininity, rebellion, and power—a mission that syncs with Gaga’s recent trajectory well.”

Showcasing the Tiffany HardWear Collection, Gaga’s ad is part of the company’s Legendary Style Series, says Glamour, which was photographed by David Sims and featured Grace Coddington (of Vogue fame) as the project’s creative director. Reflecting on her involvement with Tiffany, Glamour said Gaga recalled her New York roots to explain her love of the brand:

“In New York, you’re born knowing that Tiffany is the best, and that it is where the magic happens,” she said. “The brand is definitive and iconic, yet continues to push and evolve with the times. To me, Tiffany represents timeless American jewelry.”

If Gaga’s ad inspired you to shop the HardWear collection, Glamour reports that it will “be available on Tiffany.com beginning May 2 and in stores April 28,” while limited preorders began on Feb. 5.

SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker gets a new home

A holiday shoe collection and a line of stunning little black dresses isn’t enough for Sarah Jessica Parker; but then again, when a girl’s wardrobe grows, it needs much more space to be displayed.

That’s where Parker’s new brick-and-more store comes in. According to WWD, the Sex and the City alum is opening her first free-standing store outside of Washington, D.C. in the upcoming MGM National Harbor Resort. Set to makes its grand opening on Dec. 8 along with the National Harbor, Md. hotel, the store “will stock Parker’s SJP Collection shoe label,” reports WWD, “as well as her little black dress collection, handbags, jewelry and other assorted accessories.

In a statement on the opening of her brand-new store, WWD says Parker explained her excitement over the project this way: “Opening a stand-alone store has long been a dream we have been working towards and we feel truly privileged to be doing so with the expertise, guidance and support of our brilliant partners at MGM Resorts.”

So if you’re already strapped in the car and ready to get to Maryland in time for the grand opening, WWD says to expect products in SJP’s store to cost between $30 and $700 — quite the range for some serious style.

Fashion Finds: Jewelry

If you’re on the hunt for something stylish, but don’t know where to look, look no further than THL’s newest feature, Fashion Finds! Here, you’ll find overviews of cool shops that will fulfill all your fashion needs while also keeping in mind your budget. From apparel to shoes, accessories and handbags, Fashion Finds will help you find it all, and today, we’re scoping out fashion jewelry.

Good fashion jewelry can be a tricky thing to find; while you don’t want to spend a ton of money on a necklace or bracelet, you also want something that looks nice, that will withstand wear and tear and will pair easily with different outfits. You may even want something a bit trendy, but don’t want to shell out a lot of money for a fleeting style.

But THL knows that all fashion can be accessible — to your style and to your budget. So if you’re in the market for some shiny new jewelry, you’ll want to check out some of our favorite stores:

Charming Charlie: Offering affordable jewelry that ranges from trendy to classic, this store is a great starting point when searching for fashion jewelry. Charming Charlie also has frequent sales on jewelry, so you can stock up on of-the-moment statement pieces like chokers or classic styles like simple stud earrings. THL’s favorite: the gold lattice hinge bracelet, which offers a subtle classic pavé style in a bold cuff silhouette.

Forever 21: While it can be seen as a store for millennials, it does have a vast selection of fashion jewelry at highly affordable prices. Offering everything from dainty pieces to big, bold statement looks, Forever 21 will certainly have something to suit your taste out of their 1,500-plus products. THL’s favorite: the rhinestone ear pins, which provide a delicate shine coupled with a modern style.

BaubleBar: If you’re looking for something a bit more fancy and can stretch your budget, you’ll have to pay a visit to BaubleBar. The site offers only the most fashionable jewelry, keeping you and your style right on trend. One of BaubleBar’s best features is their build-your-own sets, in which you can select three styles of your choosing in either necklaces, bracelets or earrings — and, when you build a set, it’s more cost-effective than buying each piece separately, thus saving you money so you can go buy more jewelry. You can even get some items personalized, which makes a great gift for birthdays, anniversaries or graduations. THL’s favorite: the fringed hand chain, which combines a hot trend with a sleek silhouette.

J.Crew: If a classic look is more your style, then J.Crew has a selection perfectly curated for you. With designs featuring pretty crystals, floral patterns and simple chain links, J.Crew’s jewelry offers timeless styles that will easily pair with everything from a little black dress to a mid-week work look. While J.Crew’s jewelry often costs more than the previous three retailers, their elegance is certainly worth the cost. But here’s a hint — if you can’t swing the higher price tag, check out their J.Crew Factory store online, where you can find more classic styles at a fraction of the regular cost. THL’s favorite: the double gemstone clusters necklace from the factory store, which can dress up everything from a T-shirt to an evening gown.

With all of these great options to pick from, you’re sure to find some jewelry that you love that won’t hurt your wallet. Know of a store that we missed? Add it in the comments below or tweet us at @takeherlead with your suggestion along with the hashtag #FashionFinds.
