She Leads, You Follow: ‘Naughty Christmas Party’ Edition

The holidays came a bit early this year when makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury launched her flagship beauty boutique in the Covent Garden district of London on Dec. 3. Called the “Naught Christmas Party,” the launch brought out several stylish stars, all dressed in festive and fashionable looks for the event.

Catching our eye in a mixed metallic look was Amal Clooney, who wore a silver and gold metallic crop top and matching culottes. She completed her look with silver pointed-toe pumps and gold chandelier earrings, says InStyle.

Following Clooney’s metallic look was Kate Bosworth in an all-white ensemble by Simone Rocha. InStyle says that the actress polished off her look with a gilded clutch and pearl-embellished Nicholas Kirkwood pumps.

Although Clooney and Bosworth are dressed for the launch of a new boutique, there are certain facets of their looks that you can apply to your holiday style:

  1. Shine bright – Both Clooney and Bosworth incorporated metallics into their look, something that can easily make your outfit much more festive. While Clooney wore head-to-toe metallics, the mixed metallics were not so pronounced that they clashed; instead, they created a multidimensional, yet cohesive look. Bosworth chose to use hints of metallics, carrying a gold-accented minaudière and wearing pale gold heels. Whether you go for a full-on metallic look or use silver and gold sparingly, adding metallics to your holiday ensembles is a great way to be festive without wearing traditional red and green.
  2. Patterns and prints – Another similarity between these two outfits is that they both incorporate a pattern or print. However, they are both tonal; Clooney’s barely-perceptable floral print is done in gold on silver, while Bosworth’s pattern is white on white. If you are hesitant to wear louder prints like a large plaid or floral, tonal patterns and prints are a great way to add visual interest and depth to your look. They also can be very sophisticated when done in a modern silhouette like Clooney’s crop top and culotte combination or Bosworth’s ankle-length dress.

Take Her Look [For Less]

Show-business magazine Variety and their sister publication Women’s Wear Daily held a launch party on Thursday, Nov. 19 at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, California for their latest media venture, Stylemakers, a publication in which fashion and entertainment meet. And keeping true to their new magazine, all the hottest stylemakers of Hollywood showed up to mark the occasion in high style.

One such stylemaker was Kerry Washington, who wore a striped crop top and midi skirt combo by Saloni, InStyle reports. Capping off her look were chevron Nicholas Kirkwood pumps and jewelry by Anita Ko.

Although we love Washington’s striped style, we can’t say we are thrilled about it’s price. Her pumps alone, the Nicholas Kirkwood Women’s Monochrome Chevron Pointed Pump, originally retailed for $790, although they are currently on sale for $158 on LN-CC. We think you don’t have to pay high prices to achieve a high-fashion look, so we set out to recreate her entire look for less than the sale price of her pumps — that is, less than $158. Read on for the results!

Leave it to Lulu’s to present us with the perfect two-piece dress in the form of the Telephone Lines Black and Ivory Striped Two-Piece Dress to recreate Washington’s Saloni look. Mimicking the wrapped bodice style of Washington’s top, this two-piece style also features a full skirt reminiscent of her midi style. And the best part — this dress will only set you back $49.

Chevron pumps will complete our look for less, and the Chevron Pointed Toe Pumps from Charlotte Russe will do just the trick. Done in a similar pointed-toe style, these chevron printed pumps will easily pass for Washington’s pumps, but they certainly don’t cost as much — these pumps cost an easy $16.99.

Kerry Washington’s Nicholas Kirkwood heels alone may cost a sale price of $158, but our entire look for less will only set you back $65.99 — yes, you read that right. Just add your favorite jewelry, you’ll have taken Washington’s look for MUCH less!

Take Her Look [For Less]

Red carpets are often reserved for movie premieres and award shows, but on October 12, the red carpet was rolled out for Cosmopolitan magazine’s 50th Birthday Celebration in West Hollywood, California. And with an abundance of celebrities — from Olivia Culpo to Maria Menounos — attending the event, there was no shortage of great fashion. But our favorite look happened to come courtesy of the always-fashionable Sarah Hyland.

The Modern Family star stepped out at Ysabel in what InStyle says is a sleek black pantsuit by DSquared2. Going for a sexier look, Hyland opted to go sans blouse, completing her look with a layered choker at her neck and sheer houndstooth pumps by Nicholas Kirkwood.

Hyland’s red carpet style is certainly the object of our envy, but its price is less than enviable. Her DSquared2 suit — which seems to be a single-button version of the Sergeant Suit — costs a lofty $2,960. Her Nicholas Kirkwood Prism Lace Houndstooth pumps also cost a pretty penny, totaling $598.26. With her outfit costing $3,558.26, taking her look for our own may be out of the question. Or is it? We set out to find all the pieces necessary to take her look for under $200, and the results may surprise you. Read on to see how we did!

First on our shopping list was a blazer worthy to serve as a substitute for Hyland’s DSquared2 number, and we found it in the form of the Satin Lapel Tailored Blazer from Missguided. This blazer features a single-button style and deep v-neckline reminiscent of Hyland’s jacket, while its satin lapel also invokes the sheen of her DSquared2 look. For as similar as these blazers are, they differ in one important area: price. This Missguided piece will only set you back $59.90.

To complete our pantsuit look are the ASOS Crop Trousers. Featuring a similar slim-cut and cropped-leg silhouette, these trousers will easily pass for Hyland’s DSquared trousers, but will only cost you $39.41.

Finding houndstooth pumps to compete with Hyland’s Nicholas Kirkwood style was no easy task, but we finally landed on the Martina Pointed Toe Pumps from Nine West. Although these pumps aren’t sheer, they feature an exact houndstooth pattern to replicate Hyland’s heels. These Nine West heels will polish off your outfit for only $59.99.

Although Sarah Hyland’s Cosmopolitan 50th Birthday Celebration look cost $3,558.26, we were able to recreate her entire look for less — a whole $3,392.06 less, with our look-alike ensemble will only set you back $166.20.
