Nordstrom to expand extended size offerings

It’s one small step for the fashion industry, and one giant leap for shoppers of all kinds.

According to WWD, Nordstrom is seeking to increase its range of sizes sold (which includes plus and petite), with a goal of offering “extended sizing in 60 or more brands in ready-to-wear, outerwear, lingerie and swimwear” by spring 2018. Glamour reports that this change will begin to take root with the opening of Nordstrom’s Century City location in Los Angeles on Oct. 3, where its denim department will “feature all of its brand partners, from straight to extended sizes, merchandised together,” which means “no more having to go to a separate section to find your size.”

Additionally, the Century City location will also display mannequins of more diverse sizes, says Glamour, with this particular store displaying denim and lingerie on mannequins sized 0 to 12. Executive Vice President of Women’s at Nordstrom Tricia Smith shared with Glamour that the change won’t be wide sweeping yet, but it is certainly a move to incite change in the industry.

“There are a lot of brands that only sell between sizes 2 and 12, and we said, ‘That is not OK,’” Smith explains. “In the past, if you were a brand, you had to decide if you were going to be a plus-size brand or not, and that doesn’t have to be the case anymore.”

What also shouldn’t be the case, Smith told Glamour, is having petite and plus sizes considered “other” sizes.

“We don’t believe petite and plus should be categorized—they’re just sizes,” she said. “I think the fashion industry in general needs to commit itself to inclusivity and I strongly believe it’s about time, to be honest. And hopefully, all brands and retailers will learn to pay closer attention to their customers.”

Wilson to debut clothing line in July

Clear out your closets, buy new hangers and make space in your dressers, because next month, a brand-new fashion line is dropping, and we know it’s going to be amazing.

According to PR Newswire, actress and producer Rebel Wilson will debut her new clothing line — REBEL WILSON X ANGELS — in July, a collection specifically for women sizes 14 and up. Launching with its Fall 2017 styles, PR Newswire says that the line “anges from everyday essentials to versatile statement pieces in a size run from 14 to 24,” with denim made from LYCRA® Beauty fabric as one of the collection’s centerpieces.

With everything from moto jackets to ultra-feminine dresses available, Wilson’s line will offer something to suit every style — something that Wilson herself worked hard to do, according to PR Newswire.

“I know how hard it can be to find the cool, quality fashion I want to wear, even with the help of Hollywood stylists,” Wilson said. “I’m so proud to be creating this collection with The Mamiye Group, and to give gorgeous ladies everywhere amazing clothes that empower them to express their confidence and chic attitude.”

Ready to shop? The line will be available online and in store at Nordstrom, Dillards, Lord & Taylor and Dia & Co., with pieces priced between $49 to $298.

Luxe for less by Zendaya

Luxury doesn’t have to cost a fortune — that seems to be the motto of Zendaya‘s new shoe line.

According to InStyle, the 19-year-old actress recently launched a new shoe collection called “Daya by Zendaya,” which offers of-the-moment styles at affordable prices. Available at Nordstrom, InStyle says the line ranges in price from $70 to $110, holding true to its mission of providing luxurious looks for less.

Speaking on the importance of creating an affordable line, Zendaya told InStyle, “The average woman can not just go out and buy however many Christian Louboutins they want … But they want that luxury and they want that feeling, and I think they deserve that as well.”

But when it comes to her source of inspiration when designing the line, she said she had her family in mind. “I was inspired by the women in my life,” she told InStyle, “my oldest sister, my niece, my little nieces who will soon be wearing heels, you know, because they’re all working women who are either in college, or a mother, or a young girl who is still in school and about to go to her first school dance.”

Featuring pointed-toe heels, trendy lace-ups and heeled booties, Zendaya worked with her personal stylist, Law Roach, to create the diverse, yet trendy offering, according to InStyle, making sure that the line reflects her unique fashion aesthetic.

Always one to create “fashion moments,” Zendaya told InStyle that her shoe line not only reflects that point of view, it also aims to excite people about fashion. “We don’t have rules or any really rhyme or reason as to why we do things,” she said to InStyle. “We just do it because it feels good, and I think that’s how people should just dress in general.”

To shop Zendaya’s new line — or to drool over the designs from afar — head over to Nordstrom now.

Take Her Look [For Less]

While Paris Fashion Week slowed to a halt on March 9, it seemed as though the celebrities in attendance only amped up their fashion for the final day of shows.

Such was the case with Selena Gomez, who attended the star-studded Louis Vuitton show. The “Hands to Myself” singer gave her own fashion show when she showed up in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton, according to ELLE; sporting a crisp white button down under a black overcoat, Gomez paired the top with a dark wash denim skirt. The star of her look, however, was her Louis Vuitton snakeskin booties.

If you are drooling over her snakeskin shoes, you may want to wipe up the saliva from your chin before you find out how much they cost. These Louis Vuitton stunners — the Cosplay Low Boot — which feature a pixelated python print and a metal toe cap, will set you back a lofty $3,800. While that is out of reach for most of our budgets, we’ve found all the pieces necessary to recreate Gomez’s entire look for (way) less than her pricey booties. Read on for the results!

Starting off our look for less is a simple white button down, and the Textured Cotton Shirt from Forever 21 is a cost-effective blouse for the job. This utility piece will be a versatile wardrobe staple for a mere $19.90.

A dark wash denim skirt will complete the basics of Gomez’s look, and ASOS offers the perfect option in the form of the Jack Wills Button Front 70s Style Denim Skirt. Done in a similar wash and silhouette, this skirt makes a great alternative to Gomez’s style, and it will only set you back $66.92.

Finding snakeskin booties to rival Gomez’s pricey Louis Vuitton style was no easy task, but the Lucky Brand Bartalino Bootie from Nordstrom certainly gives them a run for their money. While they aren’t quite as fancy as the Louis Vuittons, they are much more versatile, delivering a faux snakeskin in a casual western silhouette that can be worn with everything from this look-alike ensemble to your favorite pair of jeans. These versatile booties will definitely be worth their $99.95 price tag for all the wear you’ll get out of them.

Although nothing can compare to Gomez’s multi-colored Louis Vuitton bag, the Steven Madden Chaplin Crossbody Bag gives a similarly colorful look in a quilted design. This chainlink shoulder strap bag will add some color to your look for only $21.95.

While Gomez’s Louis Vuitton booties may not find their way into your closet any time soon, our look alike ensemble can — and it will only set you back $208.72. Just throw on your favorite black coat and rockstar shades, and you’ll be ready for the next Paris Fashion Week.

She Leads, You Follow: Chelsea28 Edition

Everyone’s favorite fashionista is about to make her impeccable style available to the masses.

According to Vogue, Olivia Palermo is set to launch a collaborative clothing line with Nordstrom’s in-house label, Chelsea28. The collection will debut with the Seattle-based company on Feb. 8, a convenient coincidence that Vogue points out aligns with the start of New York Fashion Week.

Vogue says that the collection includes 32 versatile pieces that are designed for the working woman. Palermo’s collaboration covers everything from boho dresses to menswear shirts to classic jeans.

Palermo explained the impetus for the line, describing the importance of designing a collection that could easily integrate into everyday life. “It was important to start with life pieces, as I call them,” said Palermo. “Taking a great navy wide-leg pant, for example, and being able to restyle it.”

Taking wardrobe staples and providing a fresh twist on the look is also a common thread among Palermo’s line — the 29-year-old elevated classic denim into a not only a tailored jumpsuit, but also a modern midi skirt.

Although Palermo’s collection will deliver high-fashion looks, they won’t retail for high-fashion prices. Vogue says that the “opening price point of the collection is surprisingly affordable — just $68.”

Creating an accessible, yet fashionable line was certainly a high priority, as Palermo herself explained that she designed the collection with the working girl in mind.

“It’s important to understand what a girl wants. And Nordstrom has a similar take on the New York woman—she’s a woman on a mission who knows what she’s looking for.”

Take Her Look [For Less]

When one stunning look isn’t enough, having a second, equally gorgeous look is only natural. That’s exactly what Jennifer Lawrence did post-Golden Globes, trading in her red Dior gown for a navy number to attend the Globes after-party on Jan. 10.

InStyle says that the Joy actress made her way into the after-party wearing a navy Versace slip dress. The beaded frock was accented by a beaded clutch, a diamond bracelet and Jimmy Choo platform sandals.

If you love Lawrence’s frock, you may have to put the credit card away for a while before it becomes available; according to The Daily Mail, her beaded slip dress is from the Versace Pre-Fall 2016 Collection, which makes it currently unavailable to the general public. But if you have your eye on her platforms — the Dora sandals from Jimmy Choo — they are currently available for $950. $950 for these fabulous sandals may not be in the budget, but if you can spare $200 on some new pieces for your wardrobe, we found a look-alike outfit so you can take Lawrence’s look for less. Read on for the results!

Although finding a dress comparable to Lawrence’s Versace number was quite the task, we finally landed on the Angie Beaded Strappy Shift Dress from Nordstrom. Although the pattern of the beading on this dress has a more linear look, it is cut in a silhouette similar to Lawrence’s frock, while also featuring double straps and a v-neckline. This dress makes an affordable alternative to Lawrence’s Versace number, available at a sale price of $40.80.

Nothing compares to a good pair of Jimmy Choo heels, but the Jessica Simpson Banda Embellished Sandals come pretty close. These platforms feature stone embellishment on the heels reminiscent of the green marbled heel of Lawrence’s sandals. While the Jimmy Choos cost $950, these heels will complete your look for only $129 from Macy’s.

While Lawrence’s Globes after-party ensemble may have cost upwards of $950, our look-alike outfit will have you Beverly Hills-ready for only $169.80. Add a sparkly bracelet and style your hair in loose, tousled waves, and you’ll have JLaw’s look for less.

Seattle in December may not always be the best weather-wise, but things got a little hotter when singer Ciara stopped by on Dec. 15.

The singer and brand ambassador for Topshop visited the Downtown Nordstrom to celebrate the two retailers’ partnership. Wearing pieces from Topshop, Ciara stunned in a top with a plunging neckline which she paired with a leather midi skirt and black pumps.

Ciara’s chic all-black ensemble may look like it costs an arm and a leg, but it is actually quite affordable. In fact, we’ve found the exact pieces she’s wearing (which are all from Topshop, naturally) so you can take her look, and we’ve even found the perfect black pumps to pair with it. Read on for the results!

After following a lead from Topshop’s Twitter, we were able to find Ciara’s top, which is actually a bodysuit. Its deep neckline will frame your face while also creating a sexy look. Ciara’s Square Plunge Bodysuit will form the basis of your new outfit, and it will only cost $35.

Ciara paired her bodysuit with a leather skirt — the Topshop Leather Midi Skirt, to be exact — and you can too, for $180. The zippers placed on an angle at the hip are not only cool, edgy details, they are also shape-enhancers, accentuating your natural curves.

Take Her Look [For Less]

The A-List’s 15th Anniversary party may have taken place on September 1, but the fashion from the party was just so good, we can’t help but talk about it four days later.

The party, held in their Beverly Hills showroom, played host to a gaggle of a-list celebrities (no pun intended), and each one of them attended the event in high style. While we discussed our favorite looks earlier this week, there’s one look we loved so much, we decided to recreate the entire outfit for less. And that look comes courtesy of the ever-fashionable Jamie Chung.

Chung showed up to the party in what InStyle reports is a top from Forever 21, which she paired with rag & bone leather shorts, a Ralph Lauren blazer and Oxford booties. She kept her hair and makeup simple while also opting for minimal jewelry, letting her perfectly put-together look speak for itself.

Chung’s look features an interesting combination of high, low and intermediately priced items, mixing pieces from Forever 21, Ralph Lauren and rag & bone. While the exact prices of her blazer and shorts elude our searches, a similar style of leather shorts by rag & bone — the Tennis Leather Shorts — retail for $595 at Nordstrom. But if you love Chung’s look, we were not only able to locate her exact Forever 21 top, we were able to recreate her entire look for under $200. Read on for the results!

With a couple of simple clicks, we were able to find Chung’s Forever 21 Scarf Print Top. The top features a small, all-over abstract print with a black and white striped hem and a ribbed crew neckline. Chung’s exact top is the basis of our look-alike outfit, and it will only set you back $19.90.

You’ll need leather shorts to pair your new scarf print top with, and that’s where these faux leather Short Shorts from H & M come in. These shorts share the same button and fly construction while also delivering a quilted side panel, which offers just a little bit of texture to the otherwise flat finish. These shorts could easily pass for Chung’s pricey rag & bone style, but for only $19.99, they won’t leave your bank account bare.

Finding a blazer to rival Chung’s tailored Ralph Lauren style was no easy task, but we thought the Mural Slouchy Boyfriend Blazer from Nordstrom delivered an equally crisp look. Featuring a similar collar design along with a structured shoulder, this blazer will look just as expensive as her Ralph Lauren piece, but will only cost you $74.

Rounding out our look for less are cute oxford booties, courtesy of the Tahari Grace Bootie from DSW. These booties deliver a silhouette reminiscent of Chung’s style while offering oversized laces that can be tied into a cute bow. Coming in at $69.95, these boots are the perfect way to complete our look-alike ensemble.

If you loved Jamie Chung’s ‘A-list’ style but can’t afford to pay $595 for her cute leather rag & bone shorts, you’re sure to love our recreated look for less not only for the great pieces we chose, but also for it’s $183.84 total price tag!

Style 101: Dusters

It’s hard to keep track of the latest style trends in the fashion industry. It seems that once we decide to opt into one trend, a new style becomes the next big thing. But one style first surfaced in the 1920s and 95 years later, it’s still quite a popular item. But what kind of garment has such staying power? That would be the duster.

A duster is long, light coat often made without buttons. This type of coat can be done in a variety of different materials and weaves, ranging from cotton/polyester blends to sweater-like knits. duster def

Dusters are a pretty versatile coat, mostly due to their light weight. Because they are so light, they can be worn in the spring or fall when it’s too warm to wear a full coat but too cold to go without one, or they can be worn in the winter under a heavier coat to provide some extra warmth. Believe it or not, dusters can even be beneficial in the summer months, acting as mosquito barrier for those outdoor evening parties or a light layer for your day out on the water. Dusters are done in a variety of styles as well, from casual sweater-like silhouettes to dressier coat styles with a collar and lapel.

If this utility piece sounds like something your wardrobe might be missing, there are several great styles available to satisfy all of your duster needs.

Forever 21 is the perfect place to start looking for fashionable, yet affordable dusters to dip your toe into the waters of this trend. Their Longline Open-Front Jacket offers a polished, clean silhouette in a dressier style, with a collar and lapel reminiscent of a blazer. Done in a light grey, this duster will easily pair with everything from your favorite pair of jeans to your work trousers. And for only $32.90, this duster is the definition of accessible fashion.

If you prefer a more fluid, less-structured silhouette, try the Gibson Cascade Front Duster from Nordstrom. This duster offers a much more relaxed, casual style perfect for running errands on the weekend or enjoying Sunday brunch. Available in Raisin (shown), Grey, and Midnight, this $59 duster will become your wardrobe’s go-to piece, so we recommend getting it in at least two colors!

Hollister’s Open Stitch Duster Cardigan is a great way to merge your love of cardigans with the trendy duster. This duster delivers a fresh take on the classic cardigan, featuring an open-stitch pattern done on a marled grey knit, which creates a rich texture throughout the body of the garment. Sure to replace your favorite cardigan, this duster will steal your heart for only $49.95.

So now that you’re a duster expert, it’s time to cover your wardrobe in this trend, because clearly, it won’t be going anywhere any time soon.
