Vergara debuts EBY subscription underwear service

Sofía Vergara is one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, and now, her name is about to become a little more well-known, thanks to the new line of underwear and basics she’s designed.

According to W magazine, the Modern Family star just launched EBY, a “subscription-based brand of underwear and women basics” that are equal parts comfortable, stylish and practical, promising not to “roll up or stretch after you wash it.” In addition to providing foundational pieces that Vergara and co-founder Renata Black created to be as comfortable and unobtrusive as possible, The Hollywood Reporter says the overall idea for the brand was born out of considering ways to empower women.

“It wasn’t specifically about the underwear,” she told THR, “but I wanted to come up with something that was a business where I was going to make money but also do something for other people.”

And thus came EBY, which THR says has a partnership with Seven Bar Foundation, a non-profit that helps secure small loans for women-led businesses and initiatives around the world; once these loans are repaid, THR reports that “the money is returned to the organization, which in turn helps another woman get her business off the ground.” EBY will further help the organization provide female entrepreneurs with the money they need to succeed, with W magazine reporting that 10 percent of the net sales from EBY subscribers will be donated to the foundation.

As far as the subscription service itself, THR explains how it works this way: subscribers get to choose how many boxes they’d like to receive per year (monthly, twice per month or quarterly), and each box contains pieces that the subscriber chooses from six available styles. And while sizes range from XS to 4X, THR says all boxes cost the same $48, making it a fairly size-inclusive line as well as a charitable one.

Sharing with W magazine the goal of EBYVergara said it’s all about businesses helping other businesses — while having a bit of fun, too.

“I thought it was amazing because we were going to have a business and we’re going to help women with their businesses – it was perfect, I couldn’t say no,” she said. “You get this box every month or two month, whatever you decide, of several underwear or how many you want and it’s like a little gift for yourself. And you’re essentially giving a gift because we’re give ten percent of the net profit to the Seven Bar Foundation. It’s nice to be able to give back.”

Well said, Sofía. To check out EBYclick here.

Vergara bares all for Women’s Health

It’s no secret that Sofia Vergara is both a funny and talented actor, but in the August issue of Women’s Health magazine, the Modern Family star is also spilling some sage words on body positivity and body love.

Featured on the cover of the magazine’s “Nude Issue,” HuffPost that Vergara finds her place on the glossy’s front to mark a shift in the media industry.

“Here’s a woman, 45, being able to show her body,” she said. “It’s not like before, when it was just young girls who would make the cover of a magazine.”

For Women’s Health editor-in-chief Amy Keller Laird, the entire issue — including Vergara’s cover — is meant to be inspiring and thought-provoking, according to HuffPost, encouraging women to simultaneously feel comfortable in their own skin and to consider nakedness in the abstract.

Vergara told Women’s Health that for her, this means being kinder to herself and accepting change.

“I’m 45,” she said, according to HuffPost. “Even if you want to, at this time in your life, you can’t be perfect. It’s not that you hate it, or that you’re upset about it, but it is our reality…We’re changing. I see it happening to me. I want to look my age, but I want to look great. I think if you are obsessed with this ‘I want to look younger’ thing, you’re going to go crazy.”

Wise words to keep in mind.

Winter learns body acceptance from ‘Modern Family’ co-star

It takes a wise, knowledgable teacher to impart a valuable lesson to their student. And that’s exactly what Sofia Vergara became to Ariel Winter when Winter struggled to accept her body.

According to Motto by TIME, the 18-year-old Modern Family actress told Self.com that Vergara was a role model of sorts to her after struggling with her developing body.

“She could see that I was struggling a little bit with how to deal with my body, and was always trying to give me advice, like, ‘Here are some brands that would look good on our body type,’ or ‘Wear whatever you want, and feel good about yourself,'” Winter said of Vergara.

Adding to her difficulties adjusting were social media naysayers, says Motto, which Winter said was not only “the worst” for her self-esteem, but also a constant struggle to not succumb to the online negativity.

“It was hard for me in the beginning to deal with people’s comments and deal with everybody having an opinion on absolutely everything I did,” she said, according to Motto. “It was hard for me to not fall prey to wanting to change the way I felt and the way I did things and the way I looked because of what other people said.”

However, with the help of her older sister, Shanelle Workman, and Vergara, Motto says she was able to combat the criticism, learning that it’s only her happiness that matters most:

“But as I got older, I started to realize that as long as I’m positive in my life and as long as I feel good about my decisions and stick to how I feel and the things I want to do, that’s what’s most important,” Winter shared. “And that’s what’s going to get me through in life.”

She Leads, You Follow: SAG Awards Edition

The best and brightest stars of Hollywood came out in droves to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Saturday, Jan. 30 for the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The awards, presented by the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, is a celebration of the year’s best performances in film and primetime television. But prior to the awards ceremony, the honorees took to the red carpet to show off their best style.

Catching our eye first was a hot pink number by Sofía Vergara, who became the object of everyone’s gaze as she took her turn down the red carpet in a stunning Vera Wang gown, says E!Online. She topped off her look with a gold statement necklace and a fuchsia clutch to rival her bright dress.

Following suit in another pink ensemble was Saoirse Ronan, who opted for a subtler blush look by Michael Kors, says E!OnlineThe Brooklyn star let the simple elegance of her lace gown be the star of her look, as she swept her hair up in a tousled top-knot and accessorized with sparkly diamond earrings.

Kristen Wiig decided to take a different approach, opting for a chic Rouland Mouret jumpsuit instead of a gown. Wiig paired her black, white and embellished one piece with a silver barrel clutch and heels to match while styling her hair in a refreshing updo.

Bessie star and SAG Award winner Queen Latifah showed us just how beautiful a simple black gown can be when she hit the red carpet in a sparkly Michael Costello number. Done in a kaleidoscope pattern, the gown’s beading caught the light of every photographer’s flash, illuminating the already-glowing Queen Latifah.

Draped in merlot was Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox, who opted for a flowy Prabal Gurung number for the night’s festivities. She completed her goddess look with wavy tresses, strappy heels and a sparkly clutch.

Rounding off our favorite looks of the night was Amy Poehler, who wowed in a black embroidered Stella McCartney gown, according to E!OnlineThe actress completed her simply, yet elegant ensemble with straight locks and simple diamond jewelry.

While these stars are all dressed up for an event in the height of awards season, there are certain things we can take away from their looks and apply to the way we dress every day. Each star obviously wore an outfit that accentuated her shape, done by seaming, beading or embellishment. Although color, in its various hues and shades, was a big theme throughout the night, traditional black was elevated through beading and embroidery, as well as through a modern black and white color combination.

The details of every single red carpet look are important, but what is perhaps most important is the way each actress carries herself — with confidence. Because each woman is confident in who she is, her outfit merely complements her personality and enhances her sense of confidence.

Beauty doesn’t come from a stellar outfit, flawless makeup and flashy accessories; it comes from the confidence within. And each woman on the SAG Awards red carpet showed us that very thing.

She Leads, You Follow: 2015 Emmys Edition

The stars of the small screen took to the red carpet outside of the Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles on Sept. 20 to recognize the year’s stellar television performances at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards. And while the award show itself brought some surprising wins, it should come as no surprise that the the red carpet prior to the main event showcased some stunning fashion. Although it was hard to pick our favorite looks, there were several leading ladies who led the pack with their red carpet style.

Sparkling in a silver St. John gown was none other than Sofía Vergara. The Modern Family star walked the red carpet in a body-hugging beaded gown with a strapless neckline and modified mermaid silhouette.

Viola Davis was the picture of elegance as she walked the red carpet with Julius Tennon on Sunday night. According to E! OnlineDavis wore a Carmen Marc Valvo gown, featuring dense black floral beading at the waist that dispersed as it neared the gown’s fuller A-line skirt. The highlight of Davis’ night was yet to come, however, as she went on to win the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role in How to Get Away With Murder.

Keeping it simple in an all-black ensemble was Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen, who donned a Georges Chakra number for her walk down the red carpet. Featuring a multi-strap neckline and a trumpet skirt, Bowen took her gown to the next level by pairing it with bold jewelry and a shiny frame clutch.

The Good Wife’s Christine Baranski added a pop of color to the Emmys with her bright pink gown. Baranski walked the red carpet in an eye-catching hot pink gown, featuring a cap sleeve, a cutout at the neck and a defined waist. She completed her look with a gold clutch and gold jewelry.

Amy Poehler continued the cutout theme with her all-black ensemble, which featured  cutouts at the ribcages to accentuate her waist. The high-neck Michael Kors gown featured a column skirt that fell from her natural waist straight down to the floor. Poehler offset her minimalistic look by adding a stack of bold bangles to each wrist and dainty gold earrings to frame her face.

It seems like good style is all in the ‘family’, as Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland rocked the red carpet in a wine-colored Zac Posen gown. The dress featured an off-the-shoulder neckline (which created a cutout on the back of her dress) and a modified trumpet skirt. Hyland completed her red carpet look with a maroon bangle, beaded earrings and handfuls of rings.

Rounding out our favorite looks of the night was E! host Giuliana Rancic, who took her turn on the red carpet in a soft pink Zuhair Murad gown with all-over beading. The off-the-shoulder gown featured a defined waistline and soft, ethereal mermaid skirt.

Although these ladies are dressed to impress on the red carpet of the Emmys, there are certain elements of their glamorous gowns that we can apply to the way we dress every day:

  1. Define your waist – The one common thread among these diverse gowns that they define a waist in some way, whether it’s through cutouts, like Amy Poehler’s dress; a simple band, like Giuliana Rancic’s dress; seaming, like Sarah Hyland’s gown; or even embellishments, like Viola Davis’ gown. Defining your waist allows you to create the illusion of a smaller frame, while also making it seem as though your legs begin at your natural waistline (making them look much longer than they are). Each gown defines the waistline in a unique way, so there’s no excuse not to do so in your own outfits every day!
  2. Less is more – There were some simple gowns on the red carpet, but simple doesn’t necessarily mean ‘boring.’ Amy Poehler, Sarah Hyland, Julie Bowen and Christine Baranski all wore solid-colored gowns, but they each had intrinsic features that made then stand out, such as cutouts, an off-the-shoulder neckline, a multi-strap neckline and intricate seaming respectively. They also punched up their looks with jewelry and accessories, which instantly added visual interest to the blank canvases of their gowns. It’s so easy to discredit a piece of clothing just because it’s not flashy or loud enough, but these ladies showed us that sometimes, less is more.
  3. Confidence is key – The most essential part of any outfit is something that cannot be bought: confidence. All of these women (and those we didn’t have space to discuss!) walked the red carpet with confidence in who they are. The expensive dresses, jewelry and shoes, the hair and makeup all add up to make a stunning red carpet look; but all of this doesn’t equal the priceless value of confidence. So no matter what you’re wearing, be confident in who you are and believe in your own beauty, because that’s worth so much more than the cost of your outfit.

She Leads, You Follow: ‘Hot Pursuit’ Premiere

The stars of Hot Pursuit hit the red carpet of the film’s Mexico City premiere on Monday in red-hot fashion. Both Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara (a.k.a. Cooper and Daniella Riva) worked the red carpet in bright red frocks that made us green with envy.

Vergara took to the red carpet in an edgy bodycon style with a dark metallic caging detail from her shoulders to her hips. She completed her look with a bright red lip, simply jewelry and matching metallic peeptoe pumps. Witherspoon wowed in an all-over lace one shoulder dress with a thigh-high slit. She paired her lace look with minimal jewelry and a fun red-to-nude ombre pump.

To achieve a red-hot look similar to Vergara’s or Witherspoon’s, there are a few things to keep in mind the next time you go shopping:

  1. Look for interesting details – Take Vergara’s lead and look for dresses that have interesting or unusual details, like the caging detail on the bodice of her dress. This detail not only looks interesting, but it also provides a visual and structural ‘framework’ for the dress, allowing it to create shape on your body. Caging like this narrows your waist and creates a curve on the hip — the dress does the work so your body doesn’t have to!
  2. Try a new take on a classic – If you are hesitant to wear lace because you fear it will look dated, fear not! Witherspoon’s dress shows us a new way to pull off the classic, incorporating a sexy slit, a single sleeve and an edgy neckline to punch up a rather timeless look. If slits and angular necklines aren’t your thing, try going for lace in a bright color (like red!) to provide a fresh take on the classic.
  3. A little bit of matching is OK – If you notice, both Vergara and Witherspoon matched some element of their dresses to their shoes (Vergara’s metallic shoes match the metallic caging on her dress and the toe box of Witherspoon’s pumps match the color of her dress). And while normally the rule is that your accessories don’t have to match as much as they have to ‘go’ with your outfit, sometimes choosing one element of your outfit and working it into your accessories can help to create a more unified look. For instance, if you are wearing a dress in a print that contains navy, kelly green and pink, you can draw on one of the colors in your accessories (like wearing a pink shoe); doing this can really help create a more cohesive outfit.
