Beckham teams up with Target for new collaboration

Posh Spice is about to make her posh fashion a little more accessible.

According to the Huffington Post, Victoria Beckham is teaming up with Target to release a limited edition clothing collection for women, toddlers and babies. Announced on Thursday, Oct. 20, the Huffington Post says the partnership “marks the former Spice Girl’s first jaunt into designing childrenswear and arguably the department store’s poshest designer collaboration yet.”

Speaking on the accessibly of her new venture, Chief Executive of Victoria Beckham Zach Duane told Business of Fashion that Beckham’s clothing was never designed with a small audience in mind.

“The DNA of Victoria, Victoria Beckham lends itself to being accessed by a much broader number of people,” he said.

However, Business of Fashion notes that “Beckham, who launched her namesake ready-to-wear line in 2008, promised a fresh take on her repertoire, including some joyful prints. ‘It’s quite girly, fun, happy,’ she said. ‘I’ve always said [the VVB collection] is the other side to my personality, it’s the other half of my suitcase. The fun side of me.'”

With the all-new Victoria Beckham for Target collection is set to include more than 200 pieces, HuffPost says a press release describes the new line is based on Beckham, as well as “the shared experiences between mother and child” and will deliver “soft pastels, bright pops of color and pretty spring prints.”

Available in sizes XS through 3x, Business of Fashion says the collection will hit Target stores and on April 9, 2017, with select pieces also available on

So just how much will a VBxTarget design cost? HuffPost says pieces range between $6 and $70 — not too bad for fashion from Posh Spice herself.



Ava & Viv are all-inclusive

While much of the fashion industry seems to be dedicated to the tall and thin, some brands and retailers are seeking to deliver options for a greater variety of body types.

Such is the case with Target and Ava & Viv, a plus-size collection released by the retailer in February 2015, according to WWDIts launch came alongside Target’s marketing strategy to promote body positivity that they have actively pushed since 2015, evidenced by their #NOFOMO swimsuit campaign earlier this year.

But as WWD points out, Ava & Viv is unique in that it doesn’t aim to serve everyone from adults to children; instead, the collection zeroes in specifically on plus sizes. “Target saw a void,” according to WWD, “and stepped in to  grab a chunk of the rapidly growing $17.5 billion plus-size market.”

Target touts that 10 of the brands the retailer owns — which includes “Merona, Cherokee, Mossimo, Xhilaration, Circo and C9 by Champion” — have totaled more than $1 billion each per year in sales, a feat that Ava & Viv will likely accomplish, as it is already seeing high sales from its jeggings and skinny jeans, according to WWD.

Contributing further to its success is the buzz generated about the brand from bloggers:

“Bloggers have contributed to Ava & Viv’s success, a Target spokeswoman said. The retailer initially approached three plus-size bloggers when Ava & Viv launched. Nicolette Mason, a blogger for Marie Claire, GarnerStyle blogger Chastity Garner, and Gabi Gregg, who writes the Gabi Fresh blog. The three women gave suggestions to Target about how the Ava & Viv collection could be improved.”

Not only are bloggers creating an online awareness of the collection, the spokeswoman from Target also said that their opinions of the clothing are being taken into account as the line continues to be developed.

“The team is focused on the guest feedback,” she said. “Plus-size guests want the same style as the guest who wears a regular rtw size. We attribute a lot of the growth of Ava & Viv to the guest-centric approach and ensuring the assortment is reflective of the trends.”



After Target’s February announcement that they’d be teaming up with DC Comics to create super hero girls and an empowering apparel line to match, reports that the retailer has just unveiled an inspiring social media campaign just in time for the upcoming warm weather.

Target’s latest endeavor, the #NOFOMO campaign, aims to promote body positivity one swimsuit selfie at a time, says The initiative is “all about shaking off body insecurities and not letting anything get in the way of having fun in our swimsuits,” according to the company.

Even Barbie is getting in on the #NOFOMO action — especially that she now comes in varying shapes and sizes. Dressing the dolls in miniature look-alikes of Target’s swimsuit line, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Target Jeff Jones told TODAY in a statement that the company is excited about Barbie’s evolution and their role in the campaign.

“She’s had an undeniable impact on our culture for decades and now is helping to evolve the conversation about inclusivity,” he said. “Given our belief in every body, we loved the idea of working with Mattel to find a way for Barbie to join our swim campaign.”

While the campaign obviously promotes Target’s swimsuits, the pieces are shown on women of various sizes, something Jones said is something Target celebrates.

“We’ve seen tremendous strength in our swim business, which has been driven by assortment, presentation and our approach to marketing,” Jones said in a statement. “Our work celebrates the fact that people come in various shapes and sizes, and it’s ignited a meaningful conversation with our guests.”

Jones summed up the underlying theme of the project in this way: “There’s no perfect body type, but we believe, and want to celebrate with our guests, that there is the perfect swimsuit for every body type, and that’s where Target has you covered.”


Target and DC Comics Create Something ‘Super’

On the heels of the comic sensation Faith comes an announcement that proves that girls can be superheroes.

On Feb. 24, The Huffington Post reported that Target and DC Comics have teamed up to create “DC Super Hero Girls,” which is “inspired by the female characters from Warner Bros’ new franchise and web series, “DC Super Hero Girls,” according to Target.”

Superheroes like Supergirl, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Bumble Bee and Harley Quinn are set to hit the Target shelves in March, and in addition to the action figures made by Mattel, The Huffington Post says that “Target will also be selling girls’ apparel emblazoned with iconic logos, stars and empowering words like ‘strong’ and ‘brave’ as well.”

Spokesperson for Target Lee Henderson told that the move comes after their diligence in listening to consumer feedback. “There is lots of excitement around this new launch,” he said, “and we can’t wait to share the power of these iconic female super hero characters with fans. We know their stories of epic action and girl power will definitely resonate.”

Reaction on social media has been largely positive, praising the partnership for its equal representation and its promotion of ‘girl power.’

Thanks, Target and DC Comics, for showing us that girls can wear the capes, too.

Although it may not feel like a winter wonderland this December depending on your location, Target unveiled their own wonderland on Tuesday, Dec. 8. A Target Wonderland pop-up shop was opened in New York City this past week, something Business Insider reports the company calls, “part magical toy store, part Pop Art exhibit.”

Following their whimsical holiday ads, Target Wonderland brought their “Holiday Odyssey” ads to life with giant Lego ships and oversized Etch-a-Sketches throughout the shop. While this concept shop was officially unveiled on Tuesday, the 16,000-square-foot store held its VIP kickoff event on Monday, Dec. 7, playing host to a number of fashionable A-listers.

One such guest was model and mom-to-be Chrissy Teigen, who wore a white mini shift dress along with what The Daily Mail reports are gold KG Kurt Geiger platform sandals. Teigen completed her look with gold earrings and a matching gold clutch.

While we love Teigen’s white-hot look, we wish we could say the same about its price — her ‘Hero‘ heels by Kurt Geiger cost $185 (although they are currently on sale for $120 in black).
